Alice's Story

Alice Marcia Kellams passed away Monday night, January 8, at 7:44 p.m. at Lincoln Hills Health Care Center in New Albany. She died peacefully with her family by her side. Alice was born in New Albany on January 29, 1930. She is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Edward and Mary Louise Bland; two sisters, Martha and Mary Bland; a brother, Herbert Louis "Louie" Bland; and her loving husband, Richard A. Kellams, whom she married in 1950.
She leaves behind two sons, Kirk K. Kellams (Pam) of New Albany and Timothy A. Kellams (Sarah) of Suwanee, Georgia; one granddaughter, Chloe Kellams; and three grandsons, Graham, Alex, and Evan Kellams. In addition, she is survived by her special cousin, Sissy Hedge, who was really a sister to her, and her dear niece, Cathy Bland Rodgers and family. Alice was affectionately known as "Turtle" to an extended group of cousins and "Mimi" to her loving grandchildren.
Alice worked for state and local governments in New Albany and was active in the Floyd County Republican party. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, a proud 1948 graduate of New Albany High School, and a lifelong member of St. Mark's United Church of Christ.
Visitation will be Friday, January 12, from 12 noon to 2 p.m, with a service immediately following in the Chapel at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana.
