Arene C. (Guernsey) O'Bannon, 93, a life long resident of Henryville, IN, passed away at 6:00 PM on Friday, April 14, 2017 at Maple Manor Christian Home in Sellersburg, IN.
Born November 20, 1923 at home in Henryville, IN, she was the daughter of Thomas F. Guernsey and Blanche E. (Turner) Guernsey.
On April 20, 1946 in New Albany, IN, she married Glenn O'Bannon who passed away on January 19, 1976.
Arene was a Henryville High School graduate. She worked at the Army Ammunition Plant during WW II and the Vietnam wars and also worked for Willow Inn Restaurant and Crafts. Arene was a member of Bluelick Christian Church, and was known as the matriarch of her family. She was a very giving and loving person to anyone who knew her.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Bonnie (Max) Underwood, & Judy Branam, son, Roger (Karen Swarens) O'Bannon all of Henryville, IN, 4 grandsons, Tony (Sarah) Higdon, Jason (Tori) Shumate, Bradley Shumate & Bryan O'Bannon, 7 great-grandchildren, Cory Shumate, Landyn Shumate, Ella Shumate, Dustin O'Bannon, Dylan O'Bannon, Gabriella Higdon & Hunter Higdon, 1 sister Maude Deaton, 2 brothers Tom (Tommie Lou) Guernsey & Ivan (Norma) Guernsey.
Arene was preceded in death by her husband Glenn O'Bannon, parents Thomas F. & Blanche E. Guernsey, sisters Dorothy Guernsey & Gladys Miller, brothers, George, Allen, & Guy Guernsey.
Pastor David Guernsey will conduct funeral services at 3:00 PM on Tuesday April 18, 2017 at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Henryville with burial to follow at Mt Zion Cemetery.
Visitation will be 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Henryville.
Memorial contributions may be given in memory of Arene to Mt. Zion cemetery or Maple Manor Christian Home c/o Adams Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Ferguson, St., Henryville, IN 47126
