Bernard Stutzenberger

Bernard C. Stutzenberger, formerly of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away at his home Tuesday morning. Bernie, dad and grandpa as he was known by his family and friends was the former owner/partner of Heuser Hardware in Jeffersonville. He was the youngest of eight children of Daniel and Catherine (Ochsner) Stutzenberger of Louisville, KY. Bernie was a faithful IU Basketball fan and avid horse racing fan; he was the owner of harness race horses that raced in the tri-state area. He was also a past member of the U.S. Trotting Association. Bernie was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, a 67 year member of the Lawrence Capehart Post of the American Legion; a life member of the Knights of Columbus and VFW. Bernie was a Veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed time with his grandchildren, pontoon boating and Indiana State Parks.
He is survived by his wife; daughter; son-in-law; grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 12, 2018 at St. Augustine Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with burial to follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at E.M. Coots' Sons Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that in Bernie's memory, donations may be made to a horse rescue or dog rescue organization of your choice.
