Charlotte's Story

Charlotte Isabel Garner, age 89, passed away on June 7, 2017 at Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine, Florida. She was born November 12, 1927 in Michigan, and graduated with a teaching degree from Michigan State University. She was married to Jack Garner in 1948 and together they enjoyed 67 years of marriage. Isabel was a devoted mother to her three sons, David Garner, Indianapolis, Indiana; John Garner, Bloomington, Indiana; and Peter Garner, St. Augustine, Florida; and a loving grandmother to John, New Albany, Indiana; Ella Grace, Bloomington, Indiana; Tyler (Katelyn), Venice; and Mitchell, St. Johns, Florida. She was predeceased by her husband Jack Garner in 2016.
Residing in St. Augustine for over 25 years after moving from Jeffersonville, IN, Isabel continued to substitute teach in St. Johns County schools and was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church. She had many friends and was actively involved in many local groups including the St. Gerard House; the Red Hat Society; and the Garden Club. Throughout her life she enjoyed entertaining, playing cards with friends, was a wonderful cook and an accomplished writer. She was a terrific storyteller and was especially loved for her clever and witty poems - especially her Listen to Your Granny and Christmas poems - that she penned for family, friends and all her knew her.
Isabel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend to many and will forever be remembered for her quick wit, kind heart and sincere generosity.
Memorial services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday June 20, 2017 at Grace United Methodist Church. Flowers are gratefully declined and those wishing may make a contribution in her memory to the Salvation Army, 1850 State Road 207, St. Augustine, FL 32086
St. Johns Family Funeral Home in St. Augustine, was in charge of arrangements.
