Clifford "Skip" Whelan, age 81, passed away on February 18, 2017 at his home in Carmel, Indiana. He was born in Underwood IN on April 2, 1935 to Raymond O. Whelan Sr. and Ella (Brunswick) Whelan who predeceased him in death along with his brother, Raymond O. Whelan Jr. and sister, Bertha Whelan Dismang.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Maralou (Sheeks) Whelan and daughter, Sherrie Mehne (Jeff) and son, Mike Whelan; granddaughters, Grace Mehne, Danielle and Derby Whelan and grandson, Taylor Mehne and one great grandchild, Marcus Masterson. Also survived by his sister, Mary Lee Whelan and many nieces and nephews.
Skip graduated from Jeffersonville High School, class of 1953. He enlisted in the Navy Seabees, a division of the Coast Guard and of the Navy. Skip was an employee of Hooker Chemical and Occidental Chemical in Clarksville, IN as well as Lauhoff Grain Co. in Danville IL and several rehabilitation facilities in Indiana. He especially enjoyed inventing things and creating beautiful art out of stained glass. He was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Westfield, IN.
Visitation will be at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford, IN on Tuesday, February 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 22 at 11 a.m. with Father Rick Eldred and Deacon Dave Reising officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Bedford IN.
