Eric's Story

passed away on June 14, 2017 at his home. Eric believed that we are saved by God's grace, through faith in Jesus Christ. His soul is in heaven with Jesus in a new body! Eric graduated from Jeffersonville High School in 1984, worked primarily in auto parts and as a licensed practical nurse. He enjoyed many things but he especially enjoyed attending meetings of the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation and flying a Cessna 180 with his dad along the full extent of the Trail. Eric was very appreciative for what his mom and step-dad did for him over the years, likewise for many of his family members and friends. Eric is survived by: his parents, Bill Smith (Janet) , The Villages, Florida and Gail Hagen Vincent (DK) Shelburn, Indiana; his daughter - Grace M. Smith and her mother Tonya Ernst (Chad) - Jeffersonville, Indiana; half-sister - Jordan Willis; his sister - Lara Smith Patteson (Shane) and her daughter Brittney - Porter, Texas; his aunt - Lois Smith Markham (Wade) of High Point, North Carolina; his God-parents Dave & Becky Medaris of Sun Lakes, Arizona who spent a week with Eric in Florida last November; step-siblings - Kim Hogle - New Albany, Indiana and Greg Hogle (Kimberly) and their children of Elizabeth, Indiana. Eric asked that the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis be acknowledged for the excellent medical care they rendered him for his two transplants and cancer care, likewise for DaVita Kidney Care that provided him dialysis care. Visitation: 4-8 PM Tuesday at the Market Street Chapel / Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, 1119 East Market Street, New Albany, Indiana. Funeral Services will be at: 10:00 AM Wednesday at the Market Street Chapel/Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes. Interment will be private.
