Evellyn J. Chapman

Evelyn J. Chapman, 86, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2019. Evelyn held her family very close and was a symbol of devotion, loyalty and protection. She was always willing to teach life lessons to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Evelyn was always willing to give her opinion from a repertoire of life experiences. If she couldn't come up with an example, she relied on the many slogans circulated over the years by her and family members. Her philosophical tidbits were humorous but always to the point. These of course would make us smile and provide comfort. For Evelyn, it was always family first. She retired from Louisville Stoneware and was a native of Louisville, KY.
She is survived by her son Gary (Debbie) Chapman; daughter Terri (Byron) Chapman Buhner; grandchildren Paul Chapman (Stephanie), Kristie Ferree (Kevin), Garrett Nale (Nicole), and Rebecca Buhner; 7 great-grandchildren Lilly, Amani, Emma Grace, Landon, Jack, Harper and Allie. She is survived by many nieces and nephews but was very close to her three nieces Patsy, Dorothy and Vanessa.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Melvin E. Chapman; her parents William and Della Farries; sisters Dorothy Kent, Laverne Miller and Rosa Jordan Karlen; two half sisters Stella Edwards and Margaret Ballows.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at E.M. Coots' Sons Funeral Home with burial to follow in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations may be made to James Graham Brown Cancer Center 529 S. Jackson St. Louisville, KY. 40202.
