Frances's Story

Frances "Fran" Lindley Arnold, 75, passed away on January 10, 2018 in Jeffersonville, IN following a lengthy illness. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Owen, and by her two sons, John of Louisville, KY and Glen of Nashville, TN. She is also survived by her two brothers, Tom Lindley III (Janet) and John "Jack" Lindley (Laura), all of Jeffersonville. Fran was raised by her parents, Tom and Ruth Lindley, also of Jeffersonville, now both deceased. Following high school graduation, Fran attended Indiana University in Bloomington where she attained both Bachelor's and Master's degrees with majors in English and journalism. She taught in three Indiana high schools: Lebanon, Broad Ripple, and Clarksville. She also taught in the high school for military dependents in Kaiserslautern, Germany.
Following their marriage in April 1969, Fran and Owen lived for a time in Louisville and then moved to Florida where Fran cared for their two baby sons and wrote feature articles for the Orlando Sentinel.
Upon moving back to Kentucky, the couple settled in Elizabethtown where Fran became involved in volunteer civic activities. She joined the League of Women Voters of Hardin County, serving as president several times. As a League member, some of the projects of special interest to her included working to create a refuge for abused spouses, holding forums for candidates for public office, recycling waste products and helping to promote Sister Cities and Let's Spruce Up.
Fran also worked for 20 years at Hardin Memorial Hospital where she served as Regulatory Compliance Coordinator, with emphases on the Joint Commission, the hospital accrediting agency. She retired from hospital work in 2006.
A lifelong Episcopalian, she attended Christ Episcopal Church in Elizabethtown where she served on the Vestry.
Her hobbies included reading, cooking and travel.
Visitation will be held Monday, January 15 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at E. M. Coots' Sons Funeral Home, at 120 W. Maple St. in Jeffersonville.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 16 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 321 E. Market St. in Jeffersonville.
