George's Story

George W. Hagan, of New Albany, Indiana and Sun City, Arizona left this life to join his wife of 67 years, Berneda "Bee" Knable Hagan. Bee was the love of his life, and they are reunited in heaven. George lived a long and full life. He was a proud World War II veteran having served in the Army Air Corp. Sports were a big part of his life. He played basketball and football, coached many youth basketball games, and refereed many games. He retired from Dupont and moved to Sun City, Arizona. There he worked for the Sun City Recreation Department and volunteered with the Maricopa County Sheriff's posse. When he returned to New Albany he spent time woodworking and made many beautiful pieces for friends and family. He was a devout catholic and will be missed by many friends and relatives, including his friends at Westminster Village.
Left to cherish his memory are his sister-in-law, Inez Knable; nieces and nephews, JoAnne Knable Wheeler (Larry), Francie Knable, Nancy Knable Foster (Terry), Dennis Knable (Sharon), Bill Knable (Dickie); many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Cremation was chosen. A Memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 1752 Scheller Lane, New Albany, Indiana 47150. Burial of his ashes with military honors will take place at a later date in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana 47150.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, St. John's Presbyterian Church, or New Albany Floyd County Animal Shelter.
