Gerald E. "Jerry" Tyler, 84 years of age, died Sunday January 21, 2018 at the Southern Indiana Rehab Hospital. He was born July 12, 1933 in New Albany to the late Curtis and Nellie (Kime) Tyler and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Jerry was a 1953 graduate of New Albany High School where he distinguished himself in Track and Field. He and Suzanne Wolford were married in 1956, and following his military service, he attended Indiana University Southeast on the GI Bill and became a lifelong Hoosier fan. Jerry was a respected and trusted investment advisor for more than 30 years with the Stifel, Nicolaus & Company in Louisville, Kentucky until retiring in 2001. He served on the boards of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School and Providence High School, and was a strong supporter of the U.S. Olympic teams and many charitable causes. Jerry never met a stranger and will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Suzanne (Wolford) Tyler; children, Shari Baughman, Scott Tyler (Alison), and Mark Tyler (Kim); grandchildren, David, Lexi, Jake, Jack, Mitchell, Kate, Paige, Cameron, and Morgan; brother, Everett "Tommy" Tyler Sr.; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 28, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Monday, January 29, at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Kraft Funeral Service Chapel, 2776 Charlestown Road, concluding with military honors. Private burial will be in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
