Glinda Joan Mitchell

Events

Glinda Joan Mitchell, of Jeffersonille, IN, was born on November 24, 1946, in Moulton, AL to the late R.D. Owens Sr and L. Lee Owens. She went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 18, 2019. Joan was just as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside and her smile could light up any room. Throughout life's journey, she never met a stranger and was the type of person that would give up everything just to help one person. She was truly loved by all who knew her.
Joan was a faithful member in the body of Christ and was dedicated to her church. She was a twenty year member of All Nations Worship Assembly Louisville and was active up until her last days. Joan was a Registered Nurse whom diligently worked, for many years, for Norton Healthcare. Being a caretaker and caregiver came so naturally to Joan that she decided to become a college professor. She worked for Jefferson Community Technical College until she was not longer able to, instilling her knowledge into many nursing students down through the years.
Not only was she an expert Bid Whist player and amazing dancer, Joan was a phenomenal mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. Joan loved her family, traveling and serving her community but most of all she loved Jesus. Just her presence alone could fill the atmosphere with peace and the joy of the Lord. She had a heart of gold and the love of the God was evident in her life. Joan definitely let her light shine everywhere she went.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents R.D and L. Lee Owens Sr. and her nephew Lamonte Owens. She leaves to cherish her memories, her siblings: R.D. Owens Jr (Karen), Crenshaw Owens (Lisa), her children: Michelle Smith (Roy), Lee Annette Kinnaird (Tommy) and Jon Mitchell, 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and students.
The funeral arrangements are as follows: The visitation will be on Tuesday, April 23rd at Coots Funeral Home, located at 120 West Maple Street, Jeffersonville, IN, from 4:00pm - 8:00pm. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, April 24th at All Nations Worship Assembly, located at 1628 West Market Street, Louisville, KY, at 11:00am. Visitation is from 10:00am - 11:00am.
