Herbert's Story

Herbert L. Bagshaw, 94, a resident of Westminster Village Kentuckiana in Clarksville, IN, passed away at 4:10 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2017. Herbert was formerly a resident of Henryville, IN, where he had lived since 1948.
Born September 9, 1923 in Memphis, IN, he was the son of Grant and Hallie (Johnson) Bagshaw.
On September 9, 1944, he married Helen (Zollman) Bagshaw, who preceded him in death on July 14, 2013.
Herbert was a 1941 Pekin High School graduate. He worked at Jeff Boat as a welder during WW II. He learned the printing trade while working at The Banner in Pekin, IN and then worked for the Courier-Journal for 40 years as a line-o-type operator.
Herbert was very interminable in getting the sewage cooperation started and served as president of the water company board and sewage board for many years. He was very active in the former Civic Club of Henryville and was active with Henryville athletics. He loved music and sports, watched all the Henryville sports teams, and was the bookkeeper for the basketball team. He started the Little League Baseball when his son was old enough to play and formed a Babe Ruth Team. He enjoyed playing on a "40-50" year old softball team and played golf until he couldn't see the ball. You would find Herbert following the Henryville Golden Band and The Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corp. while his grandson Joe was performing. He also enjoyed the IUS Concert Band performances. He wrote many stories and poems even after living at Westminster. He collected salt and pepper shakers and geo stones.
Survivors include two children, Michael (Candice) Bagshaw of Ashtabula, OH and Virginia Sue (Kenneth) Law of Henryville, IN; one grandson, Joseph R. Law of Henryville, IN; one brother, Roger Bagshaw of Sellersburg, IN; and two sisters, Lilly Walkins of SC and Pauline Martelli of Underwood, IN.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen of 69 years, two brothers, Charles and Kenneth Bagshaw, and two sisters, Edith Bagshaw Bailey and Mary Bagshaw.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Henryville, with burial to follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Henryville.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2017 and after 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home in Henryville.
