Irene (Smith) Carter, 93, of Henryville, IN, passed away at 7:20 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Westminster Village in Muncie, IN.
Born May 4,1924 at home in Henryville, IN, she was the daughter of Louis B. and Lily Ann (Bolly) Smith.
Irene was a 1942 Henryville High School graduate, was a member of Blue Lick Christian Church where she was President of the ladies' auxiliary and served as church clerk, and Clark County Homemakers, "Hi Neighbor" group. She was the secretary/treasurer for Bowery Cemetery for numerous years, was well known for her pie baking, loved working in her flower beds and quilting.
On February 19, 1944 in Henryville, IN, she married James Robert Carter who passed away December 2, 1986. Irene, along with her husband, worked and continued their family business, J.R. Carter Feed Mill, for many years.
Survivors include two daughters, Hazel A. Amos of Muncie, IN and Janet M. (Richard) Wells of High Point, NC; five grandchildren, Scott (Dee) Amos of Summitville, IN, Janet (Eric) Holcomb of Indianapolis, IN, Carey (Jud) Fisher of Muncie, IN, Jeff Wells of Kill Devil Hills, NC, and Christy (Bob) Meindl of Kernersville, NC; five great-grandchildren, Colton Fisher, Carter Fisher, Katheryn Ann Amos, Anna Meindl, and Emma Meindl; one sister-in-law, Janet Smith of Henryville; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Mary Lou Locke, Roscoe Smith, Anna Lee Smith, Ida May Morris, Cora Rebecca Kersey, Alice Jean Bringer, Helen Maria Calvin, and Betty Jo Smith.
Pastor Steve Wever will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Blue Lick Christian Church, 16113 Memphis Bluelick Road, Henryville, IN with burial to follow at Bowery Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2018 at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Henryville and after 10 a.m. on Saturday at Blue Lick Christian Church.
