Jack Hecker, 89 of Charlestown, IN passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Green Valley Care Center in New Albany, IN.
Jack was born on March 11, 1928 in Memphis, IN the son of Orville Hecker and Thelma Bottorff and his father Roy Abbott who raised him. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a member of The Chosen Few. Jack was a member of the American Legion Post #271 in Tequesta, FL., American Legion Post #204 Sellersburg, IN., American Legion Post #335 Charlestown, IN and was a member of the V.F.W. Post #1427 in Charlestown. He enjoyed ginseng and arrowhead hunting, bingo and the outdoors especially his squirrels some of whom he named.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Bonnie Edra Hecker in 2012; daughter, Roberta Robertson; grandson, Michael Neil Hecker; sister, Jenny Spencer.
Survivors include his daughters, Rebecca S. Duvall (Danny) of Otisco, IN, Jenny L. Summitt (David) of Sellersburg, IN, Trina K. Patterson (Randy) of Charlestown and Jackie L. Johnson (James) of Tequesta, FL; sons, Michael R. Hecker of Charlestown and Larry Hecker(Bobbi) of Andros Island, Bahamas; sisters, Dorothy Terry of Memphis, IN, Marie Schafer of Charlestown and Helen of; brother, Bob Abbott (Lana) of Charlestown; 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1 pm on Tuesday August 15, 2017 at Grayson Funeral Home with burial in Silver Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm on Monday and after 10 am on Tuesday. Expressions of Sympathy in memory of Jack may take the form of donations to the Wounded Warriors Project.
