James Joseph "Joe" Beaty Jr. passed away February 19, 2017 at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville. Joe was born on January 21, 1934 in Paoli, In. to James Joseph Sr. and Mary Irene (True) Beaty.
Joe graduated from Paoli High School in 1952. He married Mary Etta Curtis on December 24, 1952. They were married 64 years.
All Joe ever wanted to be was a farmer. He raised corn, hay, cattle, and hogs. In addition to farming, Joe was a school bus driver, sold feed supplies, and hauled grain. He also was a Santa helper for many years. Joe was a charter member of the Palmyra Volunteered Fire Department, worked with 4-H in the 70's, and was strongly influenced by FFA in his youth. Joe's passion was going to farm auctions and bidding on "the $1 box."
Joe is survived by his wife, Mary Etta and children, James Joseph "Jim" Beaty III (Janet) West Lafayette, In and Nancy Beaty Hammack (Tom), Georgetown. Joe has four grandchildren, LCMR James R. Beaty, Japan, Jody Beaty, Colorado, Joseph Beaty, Colorado and Sarah Hammack, Georgetown. Joe is survived by one sister, Frances Ehrmantraut, Cincinnati.
He is preceded in death by sisters Elizabeth "Libby" Eddy and Mary Jane Jacobson and brother William "Bill" Beaty.
Funeral service will be Friday, February 24, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra, IN with burial in Paoli Community Cemetery, Paoli, IN. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 11 a.m. until time of service on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may take the form of donations to North Harrison High School FFA.
