James "Nolan" Watkins Sr., 88 of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at his home. He was a proud Korean War Veteran of the United States Army and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of New Albany.
Nolan was born on May 8, 1929 in New Albany to the late Otis W. and Thelma C. (Knable) Watkins. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, two infant grandsons, and son-in-law, Ben Kost.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia "Pat" (McCauley) Watkins; children, Patty Kost (Ben), Jeanne Day (Bernie), and James Nolan "Jimmy" Watkins Jr.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany), with Rosary service at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Albany with cremation to follow. Burial and military honors will be held at a later date at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery.
