Jean L. Norton, 92, passed away Saturday October 14, 2017 at her home.
She was the former Jean Smith, born in New Albany and enjoyed most of her working years as a day care worker. She was a member of the First Church of God where she was very involved as a singing missionary and doing evangelistic work for her church. She was a very active volunteer in the community having been a member of the Silvertoners, the Interfaith Community Council and she served as President for the Salvation Army Senior Group. She more recently enjoyed her time at the Providence Day Care. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Norton Sr., her mother, Gladys Hale and her sister, Estelleen Gardner. The family would like to express their gratitude to Jean's special caregivers: Loretta, Tiffany, Will, Vicki and Carolyn.
Survivors include two sons, Orville Norton Jr. (Doris) and Keith Norton; two daughters, Linda Parshall and Beverly Norton; her brother, Gerald Smith (Carolyn); her sister: Bettie Wilson; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Jean's life was held at 4 p.m. Tuesday October 17, 2017 at the Oak Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville (1846 E. Oak St.). Visitation was from 12 Noon - 4 p.m. Tuesday before the service. Memorial Contributions may be given to The Interfaith Community Council or The Salvation Army.
