Jerry Jordan (Ellis) Bourdeaux was born May 23, 1944 in Greensboro, NC and passed away at her Pittsboro, NC home on July 30, 2017. She grew up on Silver Hills in New Albany, Indiana with brothers Wiley and Charles and sister, Nancy. Jerry is preceded in death by her parents, Wiley and Margaret Ellis. She graduated from New Albany High School and received her BA degree from the University of North Carolina. She held three master's degrees from UNC, Hollins University and Harvard University in various fields. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Virginia.
Jerry became a high school principal at Prince Edward County High School in Farmville, VA, and later a campus principal at McCaskey High School in Lancaster, PA. She ended her career as Director of High School improvement in Allentown, PA. In her retirement, she became a master gardener and a certified naturalist and continued to teach children through local nature programs and the local Boys and Girls Club.
Jerry is survived by her husband, Robert Montgomery Bourdeaux IV; her two daughters Carolyn (Jeff Skodnik) Bourdeaux and Margaret (David Charbonneau) Bourdeaux; her five grandchildren, Stella, Aurora, Selena and Terra Charbonneau and Robert Nathan Skodnik; and her siblings, Nancy Ellis (Steven) Gregorinci, Wiley William Ellis, and Raymond Charles (Anne) Ellis.
A graveside service will be held Saturday August 12, 2 p.m. at the Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, 2778 Charlestown Rd, New Albany, IN 47150. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Gulf Presbyterian Church, 1253 Gulf Rd, Gulf, NC 27256; the Triangle Land Conservancy, 514 S. Duke St, Durham, NC 27701; or the Deep River Park Association, 3485 R Jordan Rd, Gulf, NC 27256.
