Joan Wyrick Ellison, 91, of Treyton Oak Towers, Louisville, KY, died on July 14, 2017. She was a graduate of the University of Louisville with her MA degree from West Virginia University. She was married 65 years to Addison Dunlap Ellison Jr., a Presbyterian minister now deceased.
In her life, she was a mother of four children, one (Andrew) deceased at age seven. She taught in the public-school system, led children's choirs, sang in choirs, taught Suzuki violin, composed music and published five books of poetry. She was an ordained Elder and a member of Highland Presbyterian Church. She is survived by two sons: Kyle Ellison (Cassandra Culin) of Louisville; Zack Ellison (Glinda) of Columbus, IN; daughter Greer Ellison Wolfson (Harvey) of Palo Alto, CA; one brother Warren Wyrick (Ann) of Red Hook, NY; four granddaughters; three great-grandsons; and three nephews. Her body has been donated to University of Louisville Medical School for research.
A memorial service will be held at Highland Presbyterian Church on August 26, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given to Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, C/O Sally Pendleton, 1044 Alta Vista Rd., Louisville, KY 40205, or to a charity of your choice.
