June Marie Vogt, 83, a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away July 17, 2017, at her home, in the loving presence of her family. June was a talented homemaker, a creative designer, a masterful cook, a hands-on gardener, a tireless worker and a cherished friend.
June was born in Corydon, Indiana, on November 8, 1933, to Huber Ellis Shuck and Bonnie Thompson Shuck. She graduated from Charlestown High School and attended Indiana University Southeast, which was then located in Jeffersonville. At IUS she was elected president of the newly formed student council, and met her future husband, Samuel H. Vogt Jr.
June and Sam married in 1952 and spent the next fifty-five years in Jeffersonville, where they raised their four children: Karen, Samuel III, Philip and Rebecca. June was active in the League of Women Voters and in the organization Jeffersonville Main Street. Her keen interest in her children's education led her to serve first as a substitute teacher and then as a longtime volunteer in the administrative offices at Jeffersonville High School. In the 1980s June and two friends owned and operated Jubilee Gallery in downtown Jeffersonville.
For many years June and Sam were members of Park Place United Methodist Church in Jeffersonville, and are presently members of Wall Street United Methodist Church, also in Jeffersonville. Along with Sam, June was passionate in her support for various local ministries and social services for disadvantaged people.
In 2007 June and Sam moved to Floyds Knobs, Indiana, to be closer to family members. June is survived by her loving husband of sixty-five years, Sam; her daughter Karen Bosc and Karen's husband, Michael; her son Samuel Vogt III and his wife, Adina; her son Philip; her daughter Rebecca Burr; her granddaughter Kaitlin Meador and Kaitlin's husband, Luke; her granddaughter Sarah Vogt and Sarah's fiancé, Derrick Ledbetter; her great-granddaughters June Marie Meador and Vivian Isabelle Meador; her sister Faye Thomas and Faye's husband, William; her brother Frank Shuck and his wife, Anita; and numerous nieces and nephews.
June was preceded in death by her parents; by two sisters, Anna Mae Flora and Joyce Ballard; and by a brother, Thomas Shuck.
A celebration of June's life will begin with visitation from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at Wall Street United Methodist Church, 240 Wall Street in Jeffersonville. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, July 21, at the church, with burial to follow in Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville. Arrangements are being handled by E. M. Coots' Sons Funeral Home in Jeffersonville.
June's family would like to express their gratitude to Hosparus of Southern Indiana for their compassionate assistance and support, and to their friend Lori Weldon for her tireless and kind assistance.
