Robert's Story

Robert (Wawrzyniak) "Bob" Lawrence, 86, passed away Monday January 30, 2017 at the Providence Retirement Home. He was born in South Bend, IN. and was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a 1953 graduate of Purdue University and received his Masters Degree from Purdue in 1959. Bob was an Engineer and a Manufacturers Representative. He was a Disabled American Veteran, a member of the Rotary Club, The Toastmasters, the old New Albany Country Club and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church(OLPH). Bob sang in several choirs in the area including both St. Marys and OLPH. He was Past-President of the Purdue Alumni Club of Falls Cities and a lifetime member of the John Purdue Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Cecelia Wawrzyniak and three brothers, Richard, Daniel and Ray Wawrzyniak.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, LaVerne Poff Lawrence; two sons, Dr. Tom Lawrence (Sue) and Dr. Steve Lawrence (Lindsey); three grandchildren, Matt Lawrence (Sarah), Chris Lawrence (Chelsea) and Nick Lawrence; one great-grandchild: Maggie Lawrence; and two sisters-in-law: Jean and Maxine Wawrzyniak.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday February 4, 2017 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 1752 Scheller Lane: New Albany, IN., with entombment at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery with full military honors.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville, 1119 E. Market St: New Albany, IN..
