Ruby Fern (Byerly) Flick, 88, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017. Ruby was born on September 9, 1928, in Harrison County, Indiana, to the late Samuel and Margaret (Snyder) Byerly. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Malcolm Smith; sister, Lola Seiler; brother, Jesse Byerly; sons, Frank Flick and Richard Flick; and grandson, Martin Frederick. Ruby is survived by her husband of nearly 56 years, Cameron Flick; children, Joann Frederick (Alan) of Greenville, Indiana, Randy Flick (Karen) of Sellersburg, Indiana, Bobbi Mardis (Ray) of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, and Theresa Pettigrew (Tim) of Indianapolis, Indiana; brothers, Carl and Stanley Byerly; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ruby was a long-time member of the VFW and the Eastern Star and was an active member of Grant Line United Methodist Church, Jacobs Chapel United Methodist Church, and the Emmaus community. She was also a member of Beach United Methodist Church in Ft. Myers, Florida. She loved gardening and helping others, was a wonderful cook and hostess, never met a stranger, and loved nothing more than spending time with her family.
Visitation will be Monday, July 31, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Market Street Chapel Seabrook Dieckman & Naville Funeral Home (1119 East Market Street, New Albany). Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Bethlehem Cemetery (Crandall, Indiana).
The family would to thank the staff of Bennett Place for the wonderful, compassionate care they provided for Ruby while she was a resident there, as well as the caring staff of Amedisys Hospice Care in her final days. Contributions may be made in Ruby's memory to Jacob's Chapel United Methodist Church for their kitchen refurbishment project.
