I had tears in my eyes when I went into Walmart one day this week and saw his photo sitting there at the door with the words about his passing, beside a beautiful Easter lily. I was only a customer to him at Walmart, but I loved seeing him on my early morning Saturday grocery shopping routine because he started my day off right with that infectious smile of his. I wish I could have had the opportunity to talk to him about his life to see what influences he had to have formed such a beautiful spirit in a person. I will miss him but know with certainty that he is with our Lord in heaven at this very moment. Thank you Tom, for your kind words and big smile.

I sure miss Tom's smiling face as I walk into work in the morning. He was the kindest sweetest and most caring person I have ever met. His smile was contagious. Everyine he met loved him. What I miss the most is him asking me to order his big bag of kit kats the family size bag. He would come.in every morning get a water and most days a soda and kir kats. Everytime I see a Pepsi or kit kats it brings a smile to my face. He loved to talk about his trips with his family and his doggie Sam. I'm grateful to have known and worked with him. He will be missed..

Its amazing how much time flies by in blink of an eye when you live a life of smiles, laughter, and happiness. Though I didn’t know Tom as well as I wish I did I did get to know how much of a wonderful man he was just by working with him and walking into Walmart and being greeted with a big smile from a wonderful kind hearted man. Tom had a way of lifting your spirits up as soon as you walked through the door just by smiling and always complimenting something about yourself whether it was saying your hair looked nice or telling you that you looked wonderful even if you just got out of bed and still had your pjs on no matter what to him you were beautiful and he made sure to tell you. There... was a time I got hurt at work and was put on light duty guarding the doors at lawn and garden and Tom was always there to stand with me and makes sure that I didn’t do anything to hurt myself again. Tom was all around one of the most wonderful men I could’ve ever gotten the pleasure to meet and work with. “God saw he was getting and a cure was not to be, so he put his loving arms around him and whispered come with me, with tearful eyes we watched him suffer and watched him fade away...all though we loved him dearly, we could not make him stay... a golden heart stop beating, hard working hands now rest...God broke our hearts to prove to us God ONLY takes the BEST..” we love you Tom and we all miss you dearly... fly high with angels dear friend you will always be in our hearts and will never be forgotten.Read more

Tom was so motivational! He was a great man. I appreciated him and so did everyone who cane in contact with him.
2vthings that pop in my head all the time that he said:
-He loved the red hair on little girls and his granddaughter had it.
-If some spilled something, he'd tell them wow, can you believe this never happens in a restaurant.
Great man.

I was hired by Tom and Lane as part of the opening crew at Buckheads in 1998. Tom was easily the best manager/leader I’ve ever worked with/for in any industry. I’m 48 now. You weren’t scared of Tom as a boss, you came to love him so much you were afraid of disappointing him if you didn’t really give/do your best. He inspired you and brought out the best in all who worked with and for him....and he did it by example. I last saw him when he knocked on the door of my home in Sellersburg - much to my surprise - sometime around 2006. He was in my neighborhood sharing his faith. We had a nice visit and parted ways. I’m sad I didn’t make more effort to stay in touch. He was one of a kin...d and I’m very fortunate God saw fit for my path to intersect with his for a few years. I’m a better person for having known him and the world needs many, many more Tom Denton’s.Read more

Where to begin. I had the pleasure of being Tom's boss. The most wonderful human I have ever met. Working at the door is not an easy job as they can get many complaints for the inconvenience, not Tom. People would write in to say how he changed their perspective and made their day. Amazing. He cared so deeply for every associate and customer. The times I would come in my office to have a gift card on my desk with a note telling me to buy my son a toy, or sneak and buy my coffee at Subway. I am truly blessed he came into my life and miss seeing him terribly. We lost a beautiful soul and will I miss him greatly.
