Bertha "Billie"'s Story
Bertha L. Billie (Baker) Hartlage, 100 years of age died Tuesday January 31, 2017 at Diversicare Providence in New Albany, Indiana. Billie was born July 25, 1916 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late George W. and Gertrude (Hollis) Baker and was the widow of Irvin Hartlage. She was a nurse and a retired book keeper from the Armour Company in Louisville, Kentucky. After retirement she resided for some 35 years in Spring Hill, Florida where she was a member of St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church, a Eucharistic minister and volunteer at the St. Vincent DePaul Society. She was a longtime member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Lanesville, Indiana and she will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
Survivors include children Harold Baker (Gisela) and Betty Mason; stepchildren Rosie Coomes, Mary Ann Carter and Martin Hartlage (Sue). Also 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. Brother Jerry L. Baker (Jean) and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday February 2, and after 9 a.m. Friday, at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring St. in New Albany. Her Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. Friday February 3 at St. Marys Lanesville Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Marys Lanesville Church Cemetery.
