David W. Broadus, 95 years of age, died Thursday March 23, 2017 at Suncoast Hospice in Palm Harbor, Florida. He was born September 16, 1921 in Lancaster, Kentucky to the late Luther and Jennie (Adams) Broadus. David was the widower of Helen R. (Grantz) Broadus, a longtime resident of Lanesville, Indiana and was the assistant plant manager for International Harvester in Louisville, Kentucky until his retirement in 1979. He was a Captain and fighter pilot with the "Flying Tigers" 530th Squadron in China during WW II, serving from 1942 thru 1952. David was a member of VFW Hobart Beach Post #1693, the 14th Air Force Association and the Floyds Knobs American Legion Post #42. He was an avid bowler and gardener and most of all he loved his wife and family. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed and was preceded in death by his wife Helen, a son David M. Broadus and daughter-in-law Susan Broadus.
Survivors include his children, Dava M. Leet (Tom), Steve E. Broadus (Linda), Tom A. Broadus, and Susan M. Nall (Michael). Eight grandchildren, Jody Hartman (Blanca), Dava Austin (John), Brittany Akin (John) and Chris Broadus, Brittany Hunt (Chance), Alyssa Sandlin (Matt), Danielle Brear (D.J.) and Patrick Lewis. Five great-grandchildren, Ben Austin, Abby Austin, Erika Hartman, Jack Akin, and Greyson Morton. Sister, Pat Slaughter and Dave's loyal companion dog "Booker."
A memorial reception will be held Thursday April 6, 2017 from 12 noon until 2 p.m., at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana. His memorial service with full military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday April 6, in the Kraft Funeral Service,, Charlestown Road Chapel, New Albany. Private burial will be in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
