Hershel Raymond Measles, 77, a gentle and kind-hearted man, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2017. He was a United States Army veteran and retired from International Harvester. Ray enjoyed collecting coins and could easily be described as a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.
He was born on February 22, 1940 in Spencer, Tennessee to the late Reese Measles and Hattie (Roberts) Patton. Ray was also preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Coomer) Byrd Measles; and children, Roger Byrd, Barbara Lindsey, Sue Rhea, Rondal Byrd, Wayne Byrd, and Carolyn Harvey.
Ray is survived by his daughters, Martha Wagner, Pam Ballew (Willie Wagoner); and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His funeral service will take place at 11 AM on Thursday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in New Albany.
