Marshall "Daryl"'s Story
Marshall Daryl Oliver, 81, of New Albany Indiana, formerly of Lafayette Indiana passed away September7, 2017 with his loving wife at his side. Daryl was born in Glasgow, Kentucky April 26, 1936 to the late Leo and Sara Bethel (Mayo) Oliver. Daryl graduated from Temple Hill High School in Glasgow Kentucky in 1954 and met and married the love of his life Nora Beatrice (Coe) Oliver on September 11, 1954while attending Temple Hill High School. This September 11 they would have been married 63 years. Daryl served in the Army and after returning from duty, he and his wife and young first-born son moved to Indiana. Daryl worked constriction for the first few years of living in the Lafayette area, building several homes there. Daryl and his wife had another son and daughter while living in the Lafayette area. Daryl started his lifelong commitment to the food production industry when he took a maintenance position at Holloway House in 1969 and with hard work and dedication Daryl worked his way up through the ranks as the company changed names and hands from Green Giant to what is known as Pillsbury today. Daryl transferred to the New Albany plant when the plant in Lafayette closed, and he retired from Pillsbury plant in New Albany in 1991. He and his wife traveled for some time after Daryl retired. After they returned home from traveling he then he took a position as an assembler with Wal-Mart on Grant Line Road. He left due to health issues in 2003. Daryl loved country music and as a small boy taught himself to play flat top guitar, dobro, banjo and the French harp. Daryl was a permanent fixture at the fiddlers gathering in Battleground Indiana for the years he lived in Lafayette and many of the years after he had moved to New Albany playing and singing with anyone that wanted to join in. Daryl leaves behind his loving wife of 63 Years Nora Bea (Coe) Oliver of New Albany, Sons Marshall Glenn Oliver of New Albany, Tobin A. Oliver of Sellersburg and a daughter Sheila (Oliver) Niccum of Lafayette. Daryl also leaves behind Five Grandchildren Travis Oliver of Frankfort, Jessica (Oliver) Malodor of Colfax, Natasha Oliver of Sellersburg, Zackary Oliver of Lafayette and Seth Niccum of Lafayette. Daryl is the Great- Grandfather of Eleven and has one living sibling his sister Margret (Oliver) Kinslow of Clarks Hill. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews that will miss him more than words could ever say. He is preceded in death by his parents Leo and Sara Bethel (Mayo) Oliver, two brothers Leo, and J.C Oliver. Friends can call from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Kraft Funeral Home, 2776 Charlestown Road in New Albany Indiana. His funeral service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday September 13, 2017 in the Kraft Funeral Chapel. Marshall will be laid to rest at the Garden of Angels mausoleum in the Kraft Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany
