Roy Merritt, born April 12, 1931, Axtell, Texas. Deceased February 16, 2017 in Sellersburg, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Emma Merritt; sister, Dorothy Parrish; and brothers, Tom and Bill Merritt, all of Axtell, Texas.
He graduated from Axtell High School and received a football scholarship to Baylor University. He was a Veteran of the Navy 1951-1954 and Air Force 1955-1971. After his retirement from the Air Force, he had a career as Vice-President of Manufacturing in the wall covering industry and Director of Blood Services for the American Red Cross.
Roy was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing and boating. He was a talented woodcarver, clay sculptor, and enjoyed writing poetry.
Roy is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sara Steen Merritt; son, Steve Merritt (Nancy), and Michael Burch (Tracey); daughters, Kathy Rueve (David), Michele Dooley (Todd), Tracy Burch (Holly), Lisa Blocher (Cindy); grandchildren, Kris Merritt (Melissa), Sam Merritt (Angelica), Brandon Stroud, Lexi and Abby Burch, Noah and Clare Fox; and one great-grandson, Conner Joseph Merritt.
He bequeathed his remains to University of Louisville School of Medicine. His ashes will be interred at the Fort Knox Military Cemetery, Radcliff, KY.
His family and friends will celebrate his life Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, IN. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 12:00 to 2 p.m.. followed by the memorial service at 2 p.m.
