New Albany, Indiana - Alice L. Miles was joyfully welcomed to her eternal rest just before dawn on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025. A native of New Albany, Indiana, Alice was born on June 26, 1940, to the late Nathaniel E. Phillips and M. Addrienne Black Phillips. She was joined by her sister, Peggy, in 1950.
Alice is a 1958 graduate of New Albany High School, and a 1962 graduate of Nazareth College (now Spalding University) where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She was employed by Jewish Hospital, Providence Memorial Hospital (ElPaso, Texas), Floyd Memorial Hospital (now Baptist Health Floyd), and as a school nurse and health services coordinator for the New Albany Floyd County Schools.
After a brief "retirement" from the school system, Alice became the Multicultural Outreach Specialist with the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana from 2007-2013.
Alice has served and, in many instances, held leadership positions on a wide variety of committees and boards, and has received several awards and recognitions over the years to honor her service.
Alice was an actively involved member of Jones Memorial AME Zion Church in New Albany.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Peggy A. Phillips Richardson. Left to celebrate Alice's memory: her deeply devoted husband of 61 years, Jerrol "Jerry" Miles, her grateful children, Stacey Mecier (Dan), J. Christopher "Chris" Miles (Kathy), Melissa Hearn (Robert), nephew-sons, Charles Richardson (Brittany Collins), Adrian Richardson (Kaitie); 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, along with many loving family members and friends.
Visitation with the family on Friday, May 9 from 2:00-8:00 pm and Saturday, May 10 from 10:30-11:45 am. Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, May 10 at 12:00 pm. All services will be held at Town Clock Church/Second Baptist, 300 East Main Street, New Albany, Indiana. Her arrangements have been entrusted to the Naville & Seabrook Funeral Homes.
Memorial contributions in Alice's name may be made to the following organizations: Altrusa International of New Albany, Inc, Cardinal Ritter Birthplace Foundation, Inc., Friends of Division Street School, and Friends of The Town Clock Church.
