Alvin "Keith" Stayton Obituary

Jeffersonville, Indiana - Alvin "Keith" Stayton, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, December 27, 2024, at home. He was born to the late Lester and Zella Stayton in Casey Creek, KY.


Keith was a skilled carpenter and contractor who dedicated his life to working with wood. He was a true craftsman, always building and creating. A founding member of Jeff-Clark Preservation, Keith possessed a deep knowledge of local history and a passion for preserving the area's heritage. He was also an active member of the Jeffersonville Optimist Club, where he contributed his time and energy to community betterment. Keith will be fondly remembered by his colleagues and friends for his exceptional craftsmanship, strong work ethic, and unwavering enthusiasm.


He is survived by his wife Rita Stayton of Jeffersonville, IN; sister Anne Turner of Louisville, KY; several loving nieces and nephews; along with a host of friends that have become like family throughout the years.


He is preceded in death by his son Randy Stayton; parents; siblings Leonard Stayton, Barbara Perkins, Dean Stayton, and Sondra Powell.


A Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at E.M. Coots' Sons Funeral Home with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 4-8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the service.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clark County Museum (725 Michigan Ave. Jeffersonville, IN 47130).
