Anthony Curtis Gales (Tony) Obituary

Accokeek - U.S. Army (Ret.) Command Sergeant Major Anthony C. Gales (Tony) passed away peacefully at his home in Accokeek, MD.

He is a native of Jeffersonville and a 1972 graduate of Jeffersonville High School. He is preceded in death by his parents, the former Joyce A. Bowyer and Kenneth E. Gales.

A decorated and distinguished veteran who received numerous medals and awards for his valor and service. He was awarded the Distinguish Hoosier Award by former Governor Mitch Daniels, the U.S. Solider Support Institute Commendation Award, the U.S. Army Institute of Personnel and Resource Management Award, the 82nd Airbourne Division All American Blitz Award, and the Jeffersonville NAACP Certificate of Appreciation Award, to name a few. After retirement he completed a second career at the U.S. Census Bureau.

Tony was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity, Inc. He received his BS degree from Fayetteville State University, his MBA from Golden State University and his Executive Education Certificate from Cornell University.

Tony is survived by his wife, Ernestine; their daughter, Jessica; and granddaughters, Jazmin and Joycelyn; his siblings, Marcus (Deborah) Gales, Carol Barnes, Victoria Ray, Kewin (Annette) Gales, Jeaneen Vaughn, Stephanie Edelen, George (Brenda) Smithers, Telisa Pusiful, Brenda Jolley Williams, and Melvin (Deborah) Gales; three step-sisters; one step-brother; numerous nieces and nephews; and his in-laws, Elizabeth Stubbs, Franklin McLeod, Howard McLeod, Dorothy Gilmore, Mary Gilmore, Helen Brown, Annie Hasan, James (Jean) Gilmore, Blanche Gilmore, Wesui (Sally) Gilmore, Zach (Velma) McNeil, and Frank McNeil.

Services Thursday, December 19, 2024, 11 a.m., visitation 9 a.m., Christ Temple Christian Life Center, 723 S. 45th Street, Louisville, KY. Interment Walnut Ridge Cemetery Jeffersonville, with military honors.
