Jeffersonville, Indiana - Betty Nell Metzger, 90, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away on March 16, 2025, after suffering a stroke.

Born on October 9, 1934, in Butler County, Kentucky, to Audra and Goldia Pendley, Betty's journey was one of resilience, determination, and love. Despite humble beginnings, she pursued her passion for education, earning both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Indiana University Southeast, an achievement in which she took great pride.

Betty's love story with Joe Arnold Metzger began in 1949, sparked in their Jeffersonville High School Health Class 101. That spark grew into a lifelong partnership, and in 1952, they married, embarking on a beautiful journey together that spanned an incredible 72 years.

A voracious reader and devoted educator, Betty spent 24 years teaching 8th grade English at Clarksville Middle School, where she inspired countless students with her love of literature and learning. After retiring in 1995, she found joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren, volunteering at the Center for Lay Ministries, and remaining an active member of First Christian Church in Jeffersonville, where she faithfully served from 1970 until her passing.

Betty is survived by her loving husband, Joe; daughters Susan Metzger and Lisa (Alex) Kedo; son, Joel Metzger; grandchildren, Becca (Daniel) Garcia and Tori (Joshua) Hutchins, Christopher (Christina) Schaub, Miki (Nick) Razo, and Ben (Leslie) Kedo; great-grandchildren, Malachi Kedo, Solomon Kedo, Niko Razo, Penelope Hutchins, Jamie Garcia, Mori Razo, and yet-to-be-born Baby Schaub.

Visitation will be on March 25, 2025 at First Christian Church of Jeffersonville, 3209 Middle Road, Jeffersonville, IN 47130 at 11am. A memorial service will follow at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Center for Lay Ministries, 213 East Maple Street, Jeffersonville, IN.
