Funeral services for Betty Jean Tomes, 73, Memphis, will be conducted by Pastor Wilma Bone at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Henryville, with burial to follow at Ebenezer Cemetery. She passed away at 4:50 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Lake Pointe Village in Scottsburg.
Born March 29, 1943, in Butler County, Ky., she was the daughter of Howard Threlkel and Delphia (Raymer) Leitner who are both deceased.
Betty was of the Baptist faith, she loved to dance, play cards and bingo.
On Nov. 24, 1960, in Charlestown, she married Charles Eugene "Charlie" Tomes who preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 2013.
Betty worked at ICI Powder Plant in the 1960s and later was a self-employed beautician at Betty's Hair Care Cottage.
Survivors include one son, Todd Tomes, Henryville; one daughter, Cindy (Steve) Heil, Henryville, three grandchildren, Jenna VanAtta, Charlestown, Jared Heil, Jeffersonville, and Lily Tomes, Charlestown; four step-grandchildren, Alysia Gardner Watson, April Gardner Rufing, Lane Zmijewski, and Hunter Twist, four siblings, Gastell McDonald, Scottsburg, Rick (Allyson) Threlkel, Memphis, Larry Threlkel, Salem, Marlene (Leon) Kirkpatrick, Blocher.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Lee Threlkel.
Friends may visit today, Monday, from 4 until 8 p.m. and after noon on Tuesday, at the funeral home.
