Carolyn A. Burke
Carolyn A. Burke, 82, passed away peacefully Friday, February 28, 2020 at her home surrounded and held by her loving children. She is survived by her sons Damian Burke (Maureen) of Tucker, GA., Darren Burke (Dee Dee) of New Albany, IN.; daughters Dr. Angela Rearick (Michael) of Bargersville, IN., Alicia Burke of Denver, CO., Andrea Thames (Brady) of Alabaster, AL., Alanna Burke of Jeffersonville, IN.; sisters Joan Nitzken and Kathy Francis both of Louisville, KY.; and 11 grandchildren who will miss their Memaw tremendously. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Donald J. Burke; daughter Patricia Santistevan (Gil); brother Ed White (Sue); parents James and Mary White.
She was a woman of many gifts and her greatest of all was her ability to LAUGH and make others laugh. She never met a stranger, could talk to anyone and leave them with a smile or a good laugh. The message in the life of Carolyn is quite simple. Live your best life and don't be so serious. Love your family and friends with your whole heart and do whatever is needed. Laugh as often as you can because it is great medicine for you and those around you.
In lieu of flowers, the family of Carolyn A. Burke has designated The Amedisys Foundation for memorial contributions. Family and friends can submit a tax-deductible donation specifically to hospice location 16 (Jeffersonville, IN) in memory of Carolyn A. Burke at the following link:
Cremation was chosen and a private burial at a later date. E.M. Coots' Sons Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Online condolences may be made at

I loved Carolyn Burke. She always had a story to tell. One time I had to take Alonna or Alicia home from school and they begged me to come see their room. When their mom came home, she was so upset that they took me into their “messy” room! Little did she know, my own room looked just like that! I will never forget her funny stories! I am sure she is telling heaven all about everything!
