Carolyn Cheatham Obituary

Jeffersonville, Indiana - Carolyn Yvonne Wilson Cheatham, a cherished sister, aunt, friend, and lifelong lover of laughter, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, at the age of 81. Born on January 11, 1944, in Davenport, Iowa, Carolyn lived a life marked by warmth, kindness, and an infectious zest for the simple joys of life.

Carolyn dedicated her career to helping others, first through her work at Kentucky Auto Association until its dissolution in the late 1980s, and later at Seven Counties Services, where she continued to serve her community until her retirement in January 2007. Her compassion, dedication, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege to work alongside her.

Outside of her career, Carolyn found happiness in the beauty of life's small pleasures. She was an avid ballroom dancer, gracefully moving through life with rhythm and joy. She adored chocolate ice cream, cherished time in her garden—especially nurturing her beloved tomato plants—and never missed a chance to cheer on her Indiana Hoosiers. A devoted fan of Coach Bobby Knight, she often reminisced about attending games with her dearest friend Barbara, memories that brought her joy well into her later years.

Carolyn's heart belonged to her family and her beloved animals. She loved her sisters, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews deeply and unconditionally. Her beloved poodle, Puddin', held a special place in her heart, and her compassion for animals remained unwavering throughout her life.

She leaves behind a family who adored her and will carry her memory in their hearts forever: her loving sister, Nina Marshall (Marty); her nieces, Amber Probus (Scott), Amy Markwell, and Lindsay Holcomb (Ryan); her nephew, Nick Marshall (Jessica); her great-nieces, Lacey, Lana, Faith, and Ari Probus, Mallory Noble, and Tori Murphy; and her great-nephews, Luke and Joe Probus, Will Noble, and Tyler Bahan.

Carolyn is now reunited in eternal peace with those who went before her, including her beloved parents, Theodore and Mary Alice Wilson; her husband, Tom Cheatham; her sister, Deshea Patrick; and her lifelong best friends, Joy Combs and Barbara Jacobs.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, Indiana 47130. A celebration of Carolyn's life will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with burial to take place at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.

In honor of Carolyn's love for animals, expressions of sympathy may be made to The Humane Society of Jeffersonville, Indiana.

Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that Carolyn's gentle spirit, generous heart, and radiant smile will live on in all who knew and loved her.
