Charles Dumont Emery Jr.
Charles Dumont Emery Jr., lifetime resident of New Albany, IN, born July 5, 1930, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Westminster Health Care in Clarksville, IN. He was surrounded by his family and friends at the time of his death.
Charles retired from the Indiana Gas Company after 40 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Charles is a Mason of over 50 years, a member of DePauw Memorial United Methodist Church and the VFW Hobart Beach Post. Charles was a 30 year volunteer at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services Auxiliary since 1990. Charles, along with his wife, Betty (Resch) Emery, also opened the DePauw Church Thrift Shop. He was a lifelong New Albany Bulldog fan.
Preceded in his death by his parents, Charles D Emery and Amy (Patmore) Emery, his wife of 51 years: Betty (Resch) Emery, his sisters: Martha Woodward, Mildred Matthews, Helen Morris, Betty Frakes, Eva Bowman and his brother: William G Emery.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Patmore Emery of Hot Springs, AR. and Mark Alan Emery (Susan) of Scottsdale, AZ.; his brother, Jim Emery (Sherry) of New Albany, IN.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Included is his significant other Carol Schad. Special thanks are extended to his close friends Lindsey Fleming and Karen Voorhees for their loving care. Also included are Charles' friends at DePauw Memorial United Methodist Church in New Albany, IN, Wesley Chapel Church, in Floyds Knobs, IN, staff, employees at Westminster Village and Health Care Center.
Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend and he will be missed by all those who loved him.
A Celebration of Charles life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday Jan. 16, 2020 at DePauw Memorial United Methodist Church with entombment in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park with full Military Honors. Visitation will be at the Oak Street Chapel of Naville & Seabrook Funeral Homes (1846 E. Oak St.) from 12 noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday and at the church from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday before the service.
Memorial gifts are to be sent to DePauw Memorial Church.
