Commack, NY - David Marion Himmelheber of both Jeffersonville and Seymour - Class of 1949; son of Gilbert Lamont Himmelheber and Laura Himmelheber, passed away a year ago on June 19, 2025. David was married to Patrica until her passing and they made their home on Long Island, NY. David is survived by his four children; David (Linda - spouse), Paul, Jennifer, and Daniel (Todi - spouse).

David served in the Indiana National Guard with the Cyclone Division after which time he served in the United States Navy during the time of the Korean War. While in the Navy, David went through flight training and was assigned to the USS Bennington - CVA-20. During his duty aboard the USS Bennington David was awarded the Navy Medal of Valor for his actions during the pre-dawn explosion on board the USS Bennington while the ship was conducting flight qualifications. David is credited with personally saving several lives, and was instrumental in fighting fires and helping to restore the ship's integrity. The massive explosion on May 26, 1954 claimed over 200 officers and men, seriously damaging the ship and jeopardizing its integrity.

A Memorial Mass will be held in David's hometown of Jeffersonville, IN at St. Augustine Catholic Church St 10:30 am Saturday, June 27, 2026.
