New Albany, Indiana - Gladys Biddle, of New Albany, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2024, at the Autumn Woods Health Campus. She was 101 years old.
Born Gladys Evelyn Biggs in Memphis, Indiana, on August 11, 1923, she graduated from Silver Creek High School just before the bombing of Pearl Harbor and soon answered the call to aid her country as a "Rosie," devoting her early working years in service to the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant in Charlestown.
After the War she met Morris ("Les") Biddle, a Navy veteran, who became her life's love and companion. The two were married in November of 1950 and set up a home in New Albany. Together, they raised two children, Mark and Karen.
Gladys maintained a positive attitude throughout her years and delighted in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Family successes were among her highest hopes and proudest achievements but she also touched many lives beyond. Kindness and generosity were the hallmarks of her inner spirit. She and Les were long-term members of Graceland Baptist Church, in New Albany, where she also taught Sunday School and played the organ.
Gladys is preceded in death by her husband, parents and her three siblings, Ralph Biggs Junior, John Herman Biggs, and Barbara Jean Biggs Taylor.
She is survived by her son Mark (Carol) Biddle, of Ogden, Utah, daughter Karen (Jerry) Sinex, of Clarksville; two grandchildren, Kelly (Pat) Duggins, of Sellersburg, and Keri (Gavin) Wetzel, of Palmyra; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 AM-2:00 PM at Naville & Seabrook Funeral Homes, Market Street Chapel, 1119 E. Market St., New Albany. Funeral services will follow immediately at 2:00 PM.
Gladys will be interned beside her husband at the Kraft-Graceland Cemetery in New Albany.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Southern Care Hospice and Graceland Baptist Church.
