New Albany, Indiana - Gladys Pazmiño Sanchez, lovingly referred to as "Mamita," passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on November 14, 2024 at Baptist Health Floyd. She was 95 years old.
She was born on February 17, 1929 in Ambato, Ecuador, to her parents Dario Pazmiño and Maria Vargas. Mamita left a legacy of love and generosity that she attributed to her relationship with Jesus. To know Mamita was to love her.
Before immigrating to the United States, Mamita raised her five daughters while also pouring into countless students as a Chemistry professor in Quito, Ecuador. Upon moving to Southern Indiana, Mamita began teaching Spanish classes at Indiana University Southeast and became a member of Christ Gospel Church International, where she faithfully attended for 39 years.
Her family remembers her as a source of encouragement, urging them to fearlessly pursue their dreams, many of which she invested her time and resources into. One of these dreams—a family business that is now international—became a platform to share her love, light, and creativity with the world. Mamita always gave glory to her Heavenly Father for these gifts and made sure everyone else did as well.
Mamita is survived by her five daughters, Silvana Bruton (Ian Bruton), Maria White, Renata Kelly (Christopher Kelly), Sandy Sanchez, and Delores Mitchell (Lee Mitchell); her brother, José Rueda (Teresa); 13 grandchildren, Andres, Ian, Andrea Lizi, Steven, Renata Christina, David, Joshua, Ariel Macaulay, Jacob, Anita, Samuel, Renata Tamar, and Emily; along with 12 great-grandchildren. She also welcomed many friends she met in church and wherever she went into her family. All who met her felt her motherly love.
A celebration of Mamita's life will be held Monday, November 25, 2024, from 4-8 p.m. at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville. A service will take place on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Christ Gospel Church International, 2614 E. 10th Street, Jeffersonville, with additional visitation beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Burial will follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville.
