A funeral Mass for Harry J. "Mr. D." Daniel, 89, of Jeffersonville, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 315 E. Chestnut St., Jeffersonville, with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Now with his Heavenly Father, he died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, at Clark Memorial Hospital, Jeffersonville, surrounded by his loving family.. He was a native of New Albany and served as a Navy Corpman on the USS Shippley Bay during World War II. He graduated from St. Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. After working as a chemist at Stauffer Chemical Company, he went back to school at Indiana University Southeast where he earned a master's degree. He taught and was principal at Carr School in Bennettsville. When Carr School closed, he taught at Sellersburg Elementary until retirement. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. He was a devout Catholic and a very loving husband and father. He was also an avid Notre Dame fan.. Survivors include his devoted wife of 58 years, Jane Horlander Daniel; sons, Mike Daniel and his wife, Lesia, Pat Daniel and his wife, Bonnie, and Daniel, and Robbie Daniel; daughters, Jeanie McCartin and her husband, Kevin and Lynn Vogt and her husband, Pete; sister, Jean Ann Daniel, of St. Mary of the Woods; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Viola Daniel, his brother, Tom Daniel, and his sister "Sis" Kull.. The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors at Clark Memorial Hospital, the loving staff at Fresenius Medical Care, and the driving staff at Life Span.. Visitation will be at Coots Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, from 2 to 8 p.m. today.. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions, in lieu of flowers, to New Hope Center, Jeffersonville, workshop for the handicapped.
