Our father, Harry Alonzo Sullivan, at the age of 92, passed away on June 29, 2020. He was born in Watson, IN on June 30, 1927, and grew up in Otisco. He met and then married his wife, Margaret Ruth Abbott, on December 27, 1947. He lived in Henryville from 1974 through December 2019 when he moved into assisted living at River Crossing, Charlestown.
As his health declined he became a resident of Autumn Woods Health Campus where he died. His condition deteriorated during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic quarantine.
Dad was a man of many hats. He served in the United States Army for three years where his duties included work on the Manhattan Project, Los Alamos, New Mexico. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Department for 46 years; President of Henryville Community Association for many years; participated in Crusade for Children fund drives each year, up to and including 2019; he was a 32nd Degree Master Mason of Masonic Lodge 226, Charlestown; he was a member of the American Legion Post #105; he retired from International Harvester after 30 years employment. Our parents were members of the Henryville United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed gardening, raising livestock, and helping those in his community. He was a supportive friend and helped those around him, leaving lasting impressions on those who knew him. Dad was an avid fan of Indiana University Basketball and NASCAR racing. Later in life, he attended ballgames and race accompanied by family members. On their 50th wedding anniversary, Harry and Ruth were surprised by their children with a cruise to Puerto Rico and the surrounding islands.
Harry's greatest joys and accomplishments in life were his five children and a total of 42 grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He and Mother enjoyed the yearly summer and Christmas gatherings at their home.
He is survived by his children, Rita Kay Sullivan-Younger (Frank), Barbara Jean Bary (Jack), Richard Wayne Sullivan (Kathleen), Debra Lynn Krebs, and Shannon Rae Hawkins (Tom).
Harry is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Sullivan, and daughter, Debra Krebs, and his brothers, Thomas Earl Sullivan and Charles A. Brumley.
