Clarksville, Indiana - Herbert Leslie Gordon, age 76, left to be by the sea in heaven on April 22, 2026. Remembered for a life full of adventure, humor and faith. Herb lived with a love for family, faith and aiding in the welfare of others.

Treasuring his memories are his wife of 55 years, Sandra Roselie Gordon, daughter Melissa (Mike) Kapfhammer and children/grandchildren, daughter April (Don) Holder and children, son Hadley (Vicki) Gordon and children, son Benjamin Gordon and child, Sister Debbie (Bill) Dehn and sister Becky Edwards.

Herb was born on September 24, 1949 to Louise Murphy and Herbert Gordon in Charlestown, IN. After graduating from Charleston High School in 1967, Herb went on to be an English teacher and then Director of Welfare in Crawford County, IN where he took pride in helping families.

Herb's journey often included reading a James Patterson book, listening to Barbara Streisand, giving in to his sweet tooth, singing show-tunes and traveling. He possessed a brilliant mind, the uncanny ability to talk to anyone, and a disarming wit. His passion for music and theatre grew into a lifelong love of the arts. He performed in Shakespeare in the Park and sang in numerous choirs. The melody he brought into this world still resonates in the remembrance of songs we thought he made up, only to discover they are show-tunes.

Herb often walked in Relay for Life to show his support for those battling cancer and their families. He also trained and walked in the Avon 39. A 6O mile weekend walk in support of Avon's Breast Cancer Crusade to honor people affected by cancer in his life.

In keeping with his final wishes, Herbert chose to donate his body to science at the University of Louisville, continuing to help others.

Family, friends and others whose lives were touched by Herb are invited to celebrate his life on May 23, 2026, at Shively Christian Church, 1822 Kendall Lane, Shively, KY 40216. The service begins at 2 p.m. with food and fellowship to follow.
