Sellersburg, IN - Mrs. Hilda "Chris" Berry, 94, of Maple Manor Christian Home, Sellersburg, IN, formerly of Larkspur Drive, Jeffersonville, passed away on March 31 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville, KY.

Born in Hazel, Tennessee, in 1931, Mrs. Berry grew up on a small tobacco farm near Murray, Kentucky. She attended school in the area and graduated from the local high school, where she played basketball. After her marriage to Robert Berry, the two traveled extensively following Robert's army postings. They eventually settled in Jeffersonville, Indiana, where Hilda lived until her health required her move to Maple Manor.

After beginning her work life as a telephone operator, Hilda held various jobs at each new location. After moving to Jeffersonville, she began working at the Sears Service Center in Louisville, KY. She remained there until her retirement in 1993.

An accomplished seamstress, Hilda sewed and altered her daughters' clothes for many years. Hilda also crocheted countless baby blankets for her grandchildren and various nieces and nephews. She made picture frames, sewed Christmas stockings, and made beautiful ceramic items for family members.

Hilda supported the Shamrock Foundation by making food and dog toys for sale at the annual Christmas bazaar. She collected money for Easter Seals and Boys' Town. Even well into her eighties herself, she helped neighbors by driving them on errands.

A two-time cancer survivor, Hilda remained active into her nineties. She cleaned, cooked, and worked in her yard. She walked her beloved chihuahua around the neighborhood. She loved playing with her grandsons and meeting her great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Berry, their infant son, William Berry, and her six siblings.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Berry and Betty Blythe; son-in-law Robert Blythe; two grandsons, Matthew and Kevin Blythe; daughter-in-law, Rachael Federico; and three great-grandchildren, Henia, Shoshana, and Robin Blythe.

A celebration of life will be held on April 23 from 1-4 pm at the St. Catherine Hall, Sacred Heart Church, Jeffersonville, IN.
