New Albany, Indiana - Hugh E. Bir Jr., 72, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving children. A proud Marine Corps veteran, Hugh was a 1972 graduate of New Albany High School and earned his business degree from Indiana University. He was best known as the spirited owner of the Original 4th St Live: Hugh E. Bir's Café — a place where community and connection thrives for over 59 years.

Hugh is lovingly remembered by his children, Jacob (Joyce) and Jessica (Tony); grandchildren, Regan, Quintin, and Rowan; his girlfriend, Sherry Rose; and sisters, Ann Marie, Betty Jo, and Irene. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Angela Bir, and his sister, Mary.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 11, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Saturday, July 12, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring St., New Albany. Funeral service to follow at 12:00 PM.

Hugh's legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He was truly a local legend.
