Inez Odell Hardee Obituary

Clarksville, Indiana - Inez Odell (Zollman) Hardee, 94, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2026, at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, Indiana.

Her story begins on June 7, 1932, in Lexington, Indiana, where she was born to Floyd Leslie and Beatrice Ellen (Thompson) Zollman. Inez was the ninth of eleven children, raised in a big, lively family that helped shape the loyal, spirited, and hardworking woman she would become. She graduated from Henryville High School with the Class of 1950, a school and a community she would spend the rest of her life championing.

Inez was devoted to her husband, Hoyt Hardee, who preceded her in death on October 20, 1998. The two shared a life together, and his memory stayed close to her heart in the years that followed.

Inez had a remarkable work ethic that never quit not even close to the end. She spent 44 years working as a bookkeeper at M. Shapiro & Sons and Ben Sydner & Superior Paper, retiring in June of 1994. But retirement didn't last long. She went on to work at Ponderosa and didn't hang up her apron for good until she was 80 years old. She was, in every sense of the word, unstoppable.

Of Methodist faith, Inez was deeply involved in the community she loved. She was a member of the Henryville Alumni Association, the Henryville Golden Band Booster Club, and was proudly named a Kentucky Colonel. She also loved spending time out on her family's farm.

If Henryville High School had an official superfan, it was Inez and everyone who knew her knew it. Henryville sports and band were her life. She made signs for the games and band competitions, decorated the gymnasium for special occasions, and showed up with the kind of enthusiasm that made everyone around her feel the pride she had for that school. She wasn't just a fan, she was the #1 fan and she was part of the spirit of Henryville itself.

Inez is survived by her sister-in-law, Harriet Zollman, as well as multiple nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt Hardee; her parents; her niece, Judy Vannoy; and her siblings, Russell Zollman, Forest Zollman, George Pettit, Helen Bagshaw, Mary Vannoy, Howard Zollman, Clifford Zollman, Glena Alsup, Donald Zollman, and David Zollman.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Furnish Gymnasium at Henryville Jr./Sr. High School, with graveside services to follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and again on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from Noon until the time of service, all at Furnish Gymnasium at Henryville Jr./Sr. High School.
