New Albany, Indiana - Inez Jean Hottell Real, passed away on May 11, 2026, in New Albany, Indiana. She was born to Paul A. Hottell, Sr. and Dorothea McRae Hottell on December 30, 1935.

She is survived by her children, Jennifer (Alberts-Nett) Real, Rebecca Quinkert (Steve), and Robert Real, Jr. (Sheryl), all of New Albany. Four grandchildren, Andrea Alberts Giannini (Louis), Northbrook, IL, Ursula Alberts, Houston, TX, Robert Real III (Sasha), New Albany, and Simon Quinkert (Alyssa), Phoenix, Arizona. Her great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Elizabeth Giannini, Gabriel and Grant Quinkert, and Cartie Real. Her parents, her husband, former Mayor Robert L. Real, Sr., her son-in-law, Paul E. Nett, and her two brothers, Paul Hottell, Jr. and Tom Hottell, all preceded her in death.

She graduated from New Albany High School in 1953 and attended IU Bloomington. She worked at the Indiana Employment Security Division as a secretary to the manager for several years, leaving there to raise a family for ten years. She worked part-time as a bookkeeper at Dorothea M. Hottell Realtors and then worked 31 ½ years at New Albany High School, leaving there as a bookkeeper to retire at seventy.

She was a Sunday School Teacher, 4-H Member, Jr. Leader, Leader and 4-H Corporation Board Member. She also enjoyed her Bunco Club group for over fifty years. She was a bass fisherwoman, using her own 10 ft Tracker John Boat and electric motor. She enjoyed bicycling, walking, and riding her 3-wheeled moped. She was an avid traveler and fortunately able to visit 63 countries, backpacking or on tours when traveling behind the Iron Curtain, South America, China, and India. She enjoyed immensely taking each of her four grandchildren traveling by Eurail and backpacking to 13 countries in Europe for five weeks, the summer each was ten or eleven years old.

She was a member of Silver Street United Methodist Church. At her request, cremation was chosen with no visitation or memorial service. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your favorite charity would be appreciated.
