James Raymond Sheehan, Jr. Obituary

James "Jim" Raymond Sheehan Jr., formerly of Greenville, IN died peacefully at his home in Cypress, Texas on March 13, 2025.

He was born to Helen and James "Ray" Raymond Sheehan, December 31, 1940 in Louisville, KY. Jim served in the U.S. Navy for four years and then became a tool and die maker for many years. Later, he worked for and retired from Colgate Palmolive.

He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 60 years, the former Veronica, "Vicki," Stark; three daughters, Stephanie Barrientez, Jennifer Heinsen, and Rebecca Sheehan; one brother, Michael Sheehan (wife Debbie); three sisters, Mary Helen Blume, Joan Holzknecht (husband Kent), Kathleen Calderon (husband Leo); and five grandchildren, Emily Kunka (husband Logan), Robert Barrientez (wife Brenda), Jack Barrientez, Nathan Bruce, and Anna Bruce.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Helen Sheehan; his brother, Francis Sheehan, and sisters, Patricia Keenan and Carolyn Owings.

Jim had a strong work ethic, spending long hours on the job to ensure the comfort and security of his family, whom he loved deeply. However, he had a strong play ethic too, as he loved boating—especially on the Ohio River, fishing, hiking, hunting, golfing, scuba diving, to name but a few of his hobbies. He usually participated in these with his immediate and extended family, both young and old, as well as longtime friends, sharing his knowledge and skills with "artful" and authentic humor. He loved all animals but was partial to dogs, usually having one by his side as a constant companion, or partner in crime.

Working second shift meant that in the summers, he had mornings to take his three girls fishing, play "mean" games of Euchre, take bike rides through the rural Indiana hills, and pop over to his sister and brother-in-law's house for a swim. He (and Vicki) supported their daughters in myriad ways, such as cheering at cross country races, orchestrating camping and family vacations, teaching water skiing, and building lofts for dorm rooms -- he was a proud Purdue Dad. Jim and Vicki danced the jitterbug, moved to the country to raise their girls, took cruises and watched grandkids (and granddogs), and delighted in a good Tex-Mex restaurant in retirement.

James, "Jim," Sheehan leaves countless, wonderful memories with family and friends. The ripple effect of his life will long be felt.

A funeral mass will be held at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Cypress, TX on March 28, 2025, at 11 a.m., and a celebration of life will be held later in Kentuckiana. Remembrances can be made through contributions to Tunnel to Towers at t2t.org.
