Jeffersonville, IN - James "Jim" Williams, 81, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on April 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born on January 31, 1944, in Huntingsburg, Indiana, to the late Arthur and Iona Williams.
Jim was a devoted teacher who spent many years shaping young minds at various schools and retired from Pineview Elementary School in New Albany, Indiana, after a fulfilling career. His dedication to his students and passion for teaching left an indelible mark on countless lives.
A longtime member of First Christian Church on Middle Road in Jeffersonville, Jim was deeply involved in his faith and community. He was known for his unwavering commitment to his beliefs and for offering kindness and support to everyone he encountered.
Jim's love for sports was a defining characteristic of his life. He was an avid sports fan and served as an official for many games, always knowing how to blow the whistle at the right moment. Jim always coached basketball where he taught at and he was so proud to coach Libby, when she started playing basketball. His passion for sports extended beyond officiating, as he enjoyed golfing and spending time on the course whenever possible.
A lifelong learner and an avid reader and was always eager to explore new ideas and expand his knowledge, whether through books or meaningful conversations with friends and family.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Watkins; brother, George Williams. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 40 years, Linda Williams; daughter, Amy Saier(Richard); son, Doug Watkins(Che); 3 grandchildren, Libby, Cody, Denton; along with 5 great-granddaughters, Peyton, Rae-Lynn, Chloe, Emma Lynn, Paisley.
There will be a visitation held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 from 3-8pm at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, Indiana 47130. Service will be on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at 11am with more visitation held before from 9-11am at Scott Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
