Joan L. Cahill Obituary

Joan L. Cahill, 88, of New Albany, IN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Autumn Woods Health Campus in New Albany after a long illness. Joan was born in Louisville, KY on May 22, 1936.

Joan is preceded in death by her much-loved grandson, Daniel Todaro Jr.

Joan is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Joseph Cahill; and her daughters, Denise Cope, Kathy France (Jim), and Laurie Balmer (Pat).

Joan led a long life devoted to helping others and serving her community. Her career was focused on helping children and young people develop productive lives. Joan started at Maryhurst as a physical education teacher. Joan then spent many years at Regional Youth Services, but her heart and soul were devoted to her many years at St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities as the first and long-time social services director. Her love was daily expressed in the care she showed the young women and their babies. Joan was involved in community activities and her church, St. Mary of the Knobs.

Visitation for Joan will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 2 to 7 p.m. at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, 3011 Martin Road, Floyds Knobs. Joan will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care provided to Joan by Autumn Woods and Interim Healthcare staff in her last days.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Joan's memory be honored by contributions to St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities.
