JoAnn Morris Obituary

Jeffersonville, Indiana - JoAnn (Haury) Morris, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully May 27, 2025, at the age of 87. JoAnn was born on January 7, 1938, in Louisville, KY. JoAnn was a devoted woman who always put her family and friends first.

Born to Carrie and Leroy Haury, JoAnn was the third of seven children. Growing up in the West End of Louisville, she attended St. George School, St. Columba School, and Mercy Academy (1955 graduate). Set up on a blind date by her brother Jack, JoAnn met the love of her life Jimmy, during her senior year. JoAnn married Coach Jim Morris on June 21, 1958, thus earning the title of "Mrs. Coach", and starting a life together that would last 65 years.

As "Mrs. Coach," JoAnn was always supportive of Jim's career. She was the number one fan of the Flaget Braves, the New Albany Bulldogs, the Indiana State Sycamores, and the Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers. JoAnn was always by Jim's side, riding the team bus, keeping the official scorebook, providing coaching advice, and on occasion, letting the referees know how she felt about a specific call. This unsolicited advice may have resulted in a technical foul a time or two.

After raising her children, JoAnn re-entered the workforce. She worked as a legal secretary for Young, Lind, and Endres Attorneys at Law for several years before moving to the Floyd County Circuit Court. At Floyd Circuit Court, JoAnn served as court reporter for Judge Henry Leist and Judge Terry Cody.

JoAnn was a wonderful hostess and loved to entertain at her home on the river. She worked tirelessly making sure that the family and friends who visited always enjoyed plenty of food, fun, and drink.

A member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Jeffersonville, JoAnn was active in the parish, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the card ministry, sending birthday cards and notes of encouragement to parish members, and as a member of the "Soupettes", providing food and comfort for funeral luncheons.

JoAnn and Jim enjoyed 35 years of attending the NCAA Final Four and traveling with family and friends. In retirement, JoAnn continued her lifelong passion of watching athletics and could be found in the gym or at the ballpark, supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, cross country, and lacrosse.

JoAnn is survived by her children Steve (Tamara) Morris, Dan (Holly) Morris, and Suzanne (Jay) Johnson; her grandchildren Lauren (Adam) Nallenweg, Cassie Morris, Maggie Morris, Jack Johnson, Kate Johnson, and Anna Johnson; her great-grandchildren Cameron Morris, Tanner Nallenweg, and Margot Nallenweg. She is also survived by her siblings Bob (Barb) Haury, Joyce (Bernie) Fussenegger, Gloria (Gary) Wachtel, Charles (Shirley) Haury, and sister-in-law Ellen (Morris) Trott. JoAnn's memory is also treasured by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Coach Jim Morris, her granddaughter, Kristen Morris, brothers Jack (Helen) Haury and Bill (Bonnie) Haury, brother-in-law Jack (Diana) Morris and sister-in-law Ann Morris.

Visitation for JoAnn will be Sunday, June 1, 2025 from 1:00-8:00 at Naville and Seabrook Funeral Home (1119 E. Market Street in New Albany, IN). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 am, Monday, June 2, 2025, St. Augustine Catholic Church (315 E. Chestnut Street Jeffersonville, IN.) with burial in Queen of Heaven Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Silvercrest for their compassionate care of JoAnn. They would like to extend a special thank you to Mary, Chastity, Brittany, April, and Valarie for their extra love and support.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Jim Morris Scholarship Fund at Indiana University Southeast or to the Parkinson's Foundation.
